Lithops – Living Stones
Lithops are among the most fascinating and highly sought-after miniature succulents, famously known as “Living Stones” because of their remarkable resemblance to naturally occurring rocks and pebbles. Native to the arid regions of Southern Africa, these unique plants have evolved to survive extreme heat and prolonged drought by storing water within their thick, stone-like leaves.
Each Lithops develops as a compact pair of fleshy leaves with intricate natural markings, windows, speckles, and earthy tones ranging from grey, brown, green, cream, and reddish shades. Their incredible camouflage and sculptural form make them a true conversation piece in any succulent collection.
During their seasonal growth cycle, mature Lithops can produce beautiful daisy-like flowers in shades of white or yellow, emerging from the centre of the leaf pair. With proper care, they can live for many years and gradually form attractive clusters.
